Answering Patron Questions

The circulation  desk is one of the first places patrons go in a library, and so it is critical to exercise high-quality customer service at all times. The following tips should be followed in order to provide excellent service to each and every library patron.

  • Be polite and friendly at all times to all patrons, even if they are not so polite to you

  • If you are asked a question to which you do not know the answer, do not try and answer it. Redirect the patron to the library staff member who will be able to answer his or her question

  • Respect. You should act respectful at all times towards patrons, co-workers, and supervisors. All inquiries by ALL patrons are confidential, and should be attended to immediately to the best of your abilities. Additionally, ALL patrons should be treated equally and with respect. Any level of discrimination will not be tolerated.
