MBA 650: Research and Statistics: Home

This course concentrates on statistical analysis for managers, covering both descriptive and inferential analysis of data, as well as statistical reference techniques. The course covers common research tools and techniques, including qualitative and quantitative methodologies for addressing research problems in business.

PASW Statistics 18 is available on all of the computers in both of the TU Library's computer labs: Lab 1 and Lab 2.

Monday and Wednesday 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

Tuesday and Thursday 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm

For help accessing the SPSS software in the library computer lab, please visit the library during business hours for staff assistance. 

If you plan to import your Microsoft Excel data into PASW Statistics 18, make sure that your Excel file is properly formatted first!
The SPSS software will automatically read your variables if you allow it to.

The following survey data (which uses randomly-generated statistics) is based on a five-point Likert scale:

• 1 = Strongly Agree
• 2 = Agree
• 3 = Neither Agree Nor Disagree
• 4 = Disagree
• 5 = Strongly Disagree

The survey questions for this sample dataset can be viewed below.

If I were to import the above data into SPSS exactly as it appears (by opening an existing data source), I would need to edit it before I could use it.

Start by removing the first column of data (participants) by right-clicking on that column and then selecting Clear from the drop-down menu.

Then remove the first row of data (variables) by right-clicking on that row and then selecting Clear from the drop-down menu.

Your dataset should now look like this.

And now you're ready to edit your variables!
