The Research Paper

The meat and potatoes of this course is the research paper which generally consists of five parts:

  1. Topic Selection: depending on your professor you may get to choose your own or from a list.
  2. Preliminary Bibliography: usually a minimum of 10 sources which are preferably scholarly and peer-reviewed.
  3. Annotated Bibliography: usually 5-6 sources from the preliminary bibliography are selected and then condensed.
  4. Thesis and Detailed Outline: usually submitted in the traditional Roman numeral-based outline style.
  5. Research Paper: the final product of the previous four in 800-1000 words with proper citations and Works Cited page.

(THIS IS A GENERAL OUTLINE. PLEASE SEE YOUR SYLLABUS AND/OR PROFESSOR FOR THEIR REQUIREMENTS.)
